Lionweld Kennedy Scoops Tees Business of the Year Award

One of the UK’s leading manufacturers, fabricators and installers of access products – Teesside based Lionweld Kennedy – has scooped Tees Business of the Year at this year’s Tees Business Awards.

The win cements a series of award victories for the Middlesbrough business which has also seen it presented with accolades including Make UK’s Manufacturer of the Region, Regional Energy and Sustainability award winner and National Award champion for Energy and Sustainability.

Speaking about the award win, Dave Robinson, MD at Lionweld Kennedy said: “We are obviously thrilled with this award which is one of many won by the business in the last six months, demonstrating the hard work and dedication of all involved.   The wins are very much reflective of the considerable investment made by the business in our people, processes, plant and innovation and which is seeing Lionweld Kennedy fast becoming a market leader across a number of core disciplines.

“These include state of the art lean manufacturing techniques, our push to decarbonise the construction industry and driving a sustainability strategy that has seen us achieve a 92% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and realise a long-term net zero target for 2040 in only three years.”

Lionweld Kennedy scoops the Tees Business of the Year Award in recognition of a number of key achievements delivered by the business in the last 12 months.  These include increasing revenue and operating profit - with an increased headcount of 10% - and a commitment of over £4million in site improvements including a new despatch building, a relocation of production processes and the proposed development of a new office building.  All of which will create an additional 2450m² of usable land on the company’s Middlesbrough site.

The business recently invested £500,000 on the installation of a grating shear machine which is three times faster than current cutting methods and is expected to reduce operating costs by 62%.

Formed in 1910, Lionweld Kennedy designs, manufactures and installs steel and Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) flooring, handrails, stair treads and access solutions to a range of industries including data centres, energy, construction, rail, utilities and renewables.  The business is headquartered in Middlesbrough - where it was originally formed - and is part of Hill and Smith PLC.
