Australia’s Northern Territory (NT) is looking to establish a AU$40 billion economy by 2030. To achieve this, they have developed sustainable and competitive industry growth strategies, creating opportunities for international companies.
The Spotlight on Northern Territory virtual trade mission will focus on the fastest growing sectors in Northern Territory, highlighting these opportunities to UK companies. Over three sessions you will hear from key government and industry leaders from the Northern Territory. They will provide insight on the opportunities in Northern Territory and the practical support available to assist UK companies in their market.
The Northern Territory
The Northern Territory has a total area of 1,349,129 km2 (which accounts for around 17.5 percent of Australia’s total land mass) and has a coastline that extends more than 13,500 km. Rich with natural resources, renewable energy and critical minerals are key sectors that will help accelerate the growth of the Northern Territory economy. The Northern Territory has a strong Aboriginal heritage and over 80 Aboriginal languages are still spoken there.
Thursday 17 March 2022 – Session 1: Opportunities and Support within NT

Thursday 24 March 2022 – Session 2: Critical Minerals
Critical Minerals and Resources in the Northern Territory bring large opportunities for companies to capitalise on the abundance of natural resources and geographic location to key markets.
The Northern Territory has potential to become a key player in the critical minerals supply chain with a strong endowment in rare earths, vanadium, lithium, tungsten, magnesium and copper, and some of the world’s largest recoverable resources of critical minerals.

Thursday 31 March 2022 – Session 3: Energy (Renewables, Hydrogen and CCUS)
Energy and renewable energy sources are a key driver of economic development. With substantial areas of land with high solar irradiance, the Northern Territory is highly suited to large-scale solar and renewable hydrogen developments.
In June 2020 the Northern Territory Government announced the priority electricity reform to facilitate an increasing number of market participants and the adoption of emerging technologies. This will support the government’s target of 50% renewable energy by 2030, while maintaining secure, reliable and affordable electricity for consumers.
