Tekmar Energy Provides Essential Cable Protection Systems for Successful Installation of Over 200 Miles of Inter-Array Cables on Dogger Bank A

Tekmar Energy is proud to announce its significant contribution to the successful installation of over 200 miles (328 km) of 66KV inter-array cables on Dogger Bank A, marking a major milestone in the construction of the world’s largest offshore wind farm. This achievement underscores Tekmar Energy’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the offshore wind sector.

The complex operation involved the laying of cables by DEME Offshore’s Viking Neptun and the completion of burial operations by the Living Stone. This network of 95 cables, some extending up to 8.6 miles, connects Dogger Bank A’s 95 Haliade-X 13MW turbines to the offshore converter station. The electricity generated is then converted to direct current and transmitted to the onshore converter station via an advanced HVDC system.

Tekmar Energy played a pivotal role in this project by providing the essential cable protection systems (CPS). These systems are crucial for shielding the inter-array cables from physical damage, ensuring their reliability and longevity. The innovative CPS technology developed by Tekmar Energy is fundamental in maintaining the integrity of these cables during installation and throughout their operational life.Marc Bell, Managing Director at Tekmar Energy, expressed his pride in supporting the Dogger Bank project: “We are incredibly proud to support the Dogger Bank Wind Farm with our advanced cable protection systems. This project showcases our commitment to innovation and excellence in the offshore wind sector. The successful completion of this phase is a testament to our strong partnership and collaborative effort.”

Additionally, Tekmar Group’s business unit, RYDER, conducted the Orcaflex analysis and geotechnical design for the project. This technical analysis and design work ensured that the cables were optimally protected and installed, taking into account the challenging offshore conditions.Liam Bettinson, Project Manager at Tekmar Energy, commented on the project’s successful execution: “Providing the cable protection systems for the Dogger Bank A installation phase is a remarkable achievement for our team. It required meticulous planning, innovative engineering, and flawless execution. I am proud of our team’s dedication and the successful collaboration with our partners, which has laid a strong foundation for the subsequent phases of Dogger Bank B and C.”

The successful installation followed extensive underwater surveys to ensure a clear cable laying corridor, marking a major achievement in the ambitious inter-array cable installation program, the largest of its kind in offshore wind energy to date.
