Westray Recruitment Group is looking to challenge unconscious bias, and catalyse change to the
norms of out-dated employment practices, as the Green Energy Transition looks to imminently
double up its workforce.
The world has set itself some rather ambitious targets to get to Net Zero and to succeed, we will see
migrations of personnel as career opportunities and awareness accelerates within the Renewables
Sector.
With so many businesses, including European cohorts joining the UK renewables supply chain, the
demand for experience will most certainly outstrip supply in the short term.
Gateshead based business Westray predict that 30,000 supply chain roles will be needed for 2025
within the Offshore Energy sector alone. The UK has a finite supply of available experience and
renewable energy has much work to do to secure its growth through its investment in people.
The business has come full circle in 34 years, from its early days supplying welders to build oil rigs.
We are proud to announce that we have joined the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult TIGGOR
programme, to increase the pipeline of new entrants, young and old, into the future offshore wind
industry.
Ashleigh Wright, Managing Director of Westray said “there is a great opportunity to broaden the
pipeline of potential new entrants. Westray has a wealth of experience in this field; whether its
electrical, lifting, moving, welding or management, our role is to promote the conversation to attract
the proactive workforce into the renewables industry. Green energy offers an exciting prospect, its
attractive for so many people seeking career stability. Getting the package sounding right and
presenting opportunities correctly is where we come into play for employers willing to think more
outside the box”
Justin Pringle has recently joined Westray to grow the future Green Energy Transition opportunity. “I
have just returned from a recent trip to Amsterdam Offshore Renewables event to see what they do differently. Tennet for example, have embraced their conscientious Net Zero ambitions to open the
doors to all that aspire to work in Green Energy and look to invest and nurture future careers.
Manon van Beek CEO promotes and empowers diversity, Tennet make the workplaces less polarised
and more interesting, which is working. Attracting the right type of person is the refreshing angle we
seek to foster with those businesses looking to change as part of our TIGGOR programme”
The Tiggor2 Offshore Renewables Business Support Foundation Programme, assists businesses
located in Newcastle, North Tyneside, or Northumberland, to help them enter or grow within the
emerging Offshore Wind Sector.
Eligible businesses receive a mixture of group and 1 to 1 support, providing awareness of the
offshore renewables sector and how their product or service offering fits within this industry. The
programme provides sector intelligence on who the main players are, how to access the
opportunities and also local industry visits to those who are operating within the sector. This mixture
of support is aimed at providing more knowledge and support to help them make more informed
decisions on how they develop their own business to meet the needs of this growing sector.
