CarnaudMetalbox Engineering (CMbE) designs, develops and manufactures high-performance metal forming and finishing machinery for the production of beverage, food and aerosol cans.

Founded in the 1930s, CMB Engineering brings almost a century of expertise into the Engineering industry.  Shipley, West Yorkshire provides the base for our global network and services where our equipment is designed, manufactured, assembled, tested and then dispatched. In addition to our headquarters in the UK we have a number of other manufacturing facilities in the UK based within Leeds and Saltaire, and additional Spare parts facilities within the USA based in Connecticut and also in Shanghai, China.

CMbE are passionate about developing young people for careers in Engineering / Manufacturing in the UK, and are proud of our established Apprenticeship program.  Typical annual intake of Apprentices is between 8 to 10, whilst we have now seen 5 generations of Apprentices participate in the renowned World Skills competition (Manufacturing Team Challenge), consistently representing Team GB is testament to our world-class Apprenticeship program.  Developing their technical and communication skills, whilst also providing them with key attributes for careers in Engineering.  A number of CMbE Apprentices have risen through the ranks to senior positions including our Senior Vice President, Head of Sales, Sales Manager and Engineering Manager. 

With an established Engineering and manufacturing heritage, CMbE is now embarking on an exciting journey to diversify into the Renewable Energy sector.  To demonstrate our determination for success and commitment to diversify, we were one of the first organisations to be granted Fit For Offshore Renewables (F4OR) status by the ORE Catapult in late 2020.

With a wealth of experience and expertise in the areas of, Development, Design and Engineering, we are well placed to offer innovative engineering and design solutions to the sector.  Our  recent successes include Industry 4.0 developments, energy saving initiatives and downtime reduction projects within our existing sector.  Our innovation was recognised by the prestigious Queens Award for Innovation awarded in 2020, whilst having previously been awarded the Queens Award for International Trade and Export in both 2010 and 2014, and for Technological Achievements in 1986.

With extensive assembly areas across multiple sites, we are able to assemble equipment ranging in size and complexity.  Our integrated machining facility is complete with the latest CNC machining centre technology as well as our already well-established and trusted UK-based supply chain.  With expert capability to design and manufacture components - with facilities to complete fast turnaround overhauls of complex high precision assemblies and components.

The quality of our products and services are vital to our strategy and success, being accredited with ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001.  Our Quality Control functions include CMM machines, Faro-arms and contracers.
